Bungo Initiative - Support for the rural community
Socio-economic development
In December 2013 and in collaboration with the Regional Government, the FSDEA started a social inclusion pilot programme in the municipality of Bungo (Uíge).
As part of this initiative, the FSDEA aimed to empower this community of smallholders by investing in sustainable income generation methods designed to enable rural communities to access public education, authorised fruit and vegetable markets, and official microcredit programmes.
The FSDEA supported the civil identification process in order to allow people to access public services within their municipality. As a result, 5,000 people from Bungo received birth certificates, identity cards and other means of identification that enabled them to access education, health and banking services. The programme also increased levels of agricultural production, nutrition and income by encouraging sustainable agriculture. This initiative was established to help develop value chains and create micro and small enterprises in Bungo. The programme has improved living conditions for more than 3,000 families.
