Japanese Ambassador to Angola visits Longonjo Mining Project
The Ambassador of Japan to Angola, Hiroaki Sano, visited the facilities of the Longonjo Mining Project, promoted by Ozango Minerais, S.A., on 24 August in the municipality of Longonjo, Huambo Province.
The visit provided the Japanese diplomat with an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the development of the project, including the work currently underway, its implementation prospects, and its potential contribution to the national economy, the development of the mining sector’s value chain, and the socio-economic development of the region.
The delegation was received by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ozango Minerais, Eng. Alcídio José, who led the visit and presented an overview of the project’s development status, its main planned infrastructure and components, as well as the strategic vision for its implementation.
The visit was also attended by representatives of the Provincial Government of Huambo, the European Union, Ozango Minerais, and other invited stakeholders.
As a shareholder in Ozango Minerais and the principal promoter of the Longonjo Project, the Fundo Soberano de Angola (FSDEA) plays a central role in enabling and advancing this strategic investment, which is aligned with Angola’s national priorities of economic diversification, the development of mineral resources, and the establishment of a mining industry capable of generating greater value for the country.
Ambassador Hiroaki Sano’s visit is particularly significant in the context of growing international interest in critical and strategic minerals, as well as the opportunities for cooperation that the Longonjo Project could create across its value chain.
In this context, the presence of the Japanese diplomatic mission provides an opportunity to deepen dialogue between Angola and Japan and explore potential areas of cooperation, particularly in investment, technology, mining, mineral processing, and sustainable industrial development.
