FSDEA Destaca Agenda Africana de Investimento e Transformação Industrial na Conferência Cambridge Africa Together 2026
The Angola Sovereign Wealth Fund (FSDEA) participated in the Cambridge Africa Together Conference 2026, held on 22 and 23 May at the Cambridge Union, United Kingdom, under the theme 'Africa in the Age of Disruption'. The event brought together African Heads of State, policymakers, academics, investors and development leaders to discuss Africa’s future in a rapidly changing global landscape.
Representing the FSDEA, Chairman Armando Manuel participated as a speaker in the high-level panel entitled 'Beyond Debt and Dependency: Africa’s Path to Development and Industrial Transformation', alongside H.E. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of AUDA-NEPAD. The conference also featured a Presidential Lecture delivered by H.E. Dr Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and current Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS.
During his intervention, Armando Manuel emphasised that Africa’s challenge is not simply reducing debt, but ensuring that financial resources are channelled towards productive capacity, industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
'Africa possesses extraordinary strategic advantages,' he stated. 'This is the continent with the youngest population in the world, vast natural resources, significant consumer potential and tremendous opportunities in infrastructure development.'
Armando Manuel also highlighted the FSDEA’s presence across the African continent as an investor committed to contributing to Africa’s development. As an example, he cited the FSDEA’s investment in FG Gold for the development of the Baomahun Gold Project in Sierra Leone. This investment marked the FSDEA’s first operation in Sierra Leone, further reinforcing the pan-African dimension of the Fund’s investment strategy.
The conference also featured reflections from AUDA-NEPAD on Africa’s development vision and the continent’s agenda for self-financed transformation, while President Julius Maada Bio advocated for stronger African leadership, greater institutional resilience and enhanced strategic capacity to shape the continent’s future.
Throughout the Africa Day celebrations and conference activities, Armando Manuel engaged with African leaders, policymakers, academics, students and members of the African diaspora, reinforcing the FSDEA’s commitment to promoting strategic partnerships and sustainable investment across Africa.
The conference programme included discussions on geopolitics, artificial intelligence, fintech, youth transformation, energy transition and the future architecture of Africa’s economy.
